There are 24 local Societies within The Arts Society Sussex Area, comprising 5,000 members. Each society is run by volunteers and has its own exciting programme of monthly lectures and events.
The Area Team is also managed by volunteers in specific roles and headed by an Area Chairman.
Area teams across the country support local societies by giving advice when required, promoting and helping to publicise volunteer activities within the Area as well as conveying updates on the National policy. Throughout the year they attend regular Area meetings at the Arts Society house for updates, discussion and reporting feedback from societies.
Each Area holds two Area Forums per annum for societies to come together to discuss and exchange ideas and information.
Area promotes the Arts by organising Special Interest Days, open to both members and the public, with a series of talks given by accredited lecturers from The Arts Society Directory. Details of the Special Interest days for 2021 will be announced in July 2020
Sussex Area annually sponsors a student at West Dean College helping them to qualify for a career in the Arts.
The Arts Society, formerly known as NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts) was founded in 1968 by Patricia Fay to bring those interested in the arts together. It is now an international charitable organisation with 90,000 members in the U.K. and abroad.
